Municipal councillors should keep their focus on the job they were elected to do and running someone else's war on the other side of the world is way outside their scope, experience and ability. Most of these people are struggling with Potholes101 and they should focus on mastering that which they were elected to do. No one cares about their opinions outside of that.
I've had lots of media training and our community got nothing, and worse, as response to this serious lack of judgement on the part of C councillor Kim.
She should resign.
I'm one person, with one perspective on leadership... but for her (and Alto, Thompson, so far) to double down in their non-responses is cruel. Leaders should rise above, not wade into, long-standing nuanced, emotional, violent conflict, because we need guidance, confirmation of who represents us, and alignment of their values with the community. Every community looks to leadership for signs of wisdom, competence, and behaviour consistent with the public trust.
Susan Kim (and by omission, Mayor Alto and Councillor Thompson) have done the opposite, confirming they're no more qualified to lead us than any true-believer on either side of this conflict. Their commentary makes things worse by omission; they probably should've said nothing.
The fact she signed a letter referring to "so-called-Canada" tells us all we need to know about the public trust. The fact she doesn't have the courage of her convictions to admit to signing it speaks to character.
Susan Kim needs to resign due to her actions in 2023 and 2024 which represent a conflict of interest and a clear violation of the fiduciary responsibility and the impartiality expected of an elected representative of the Victoria City Council. There is no room for Susan’s international political beliefs which discriminate against one of Victoria’s faith communities. Bringing bias to the table is not what she was elected to do.

Her statement was everything BUT an apology. Almost doubling-down on her ill-informed missive!
Almost? 😀
